Alliance on Infectious Diseases in Africa (AIDA) is an international nonprofit humanitarian alliance dedicated to preventing deadly infectious disease outbreaks before they spread beyond local communities and threaten global populations.
Founded by African expatriates in the United States, AIDA operates in partnership with local agencies, health professionals, researchers, and governments across Africa. Our focus is simple and urgent: detect emerging infectious disease threats early, contain them rapidly, and strengthen the systems that prevent future outbreaks.
Global pandemics do not begin in major cities. They begin where surveillance is limited, infrastructure is weak, and communities lack resources. AIDA works at that critical point of origin.

Where We Work
AIDA operates across the African continent, with strategic focus in Nigeria and West Africa; regions that serve as critical population and trade gateways with global connectivity.
Lagos, Nigeria, one of Africa’s largest population centers and most important travel hubs, represents a key point of intervention. Early detection and containment in such strategic regions can prevent outbreaks from spreading through international travel and trade.
Our work extends to rural and remote communities, where many infectious disease threats first emerge. By strengthening surveillance systems, supporting local health agencies, and building community resilience, we reduce risk at the source.
